We spend some summer vacation time in Idaho. Even though it is July everything is so lush and beautiful. We went hiking and enjoyed driving around the mountains. We also saw the most beautiful rainbow! I've never been so close to one before, I couldn't even fit the whole rainbow in one picture. It was and amazing, relaxing experience.

I never thought I could be one of those people who pulls off mixed prints, but I love this outfit! Both of the patterns are fairly simple and the blue color connects them. I decided to have very simple accessories with a bold orange lip and toe nail colors to brighten the look up.

I loved how light this dress from H&M was on such a hot day yesterday. Because it was so flowy and bohemian I tried to ground it with some classic 50's inspired accessories to make it more my style.
This type of sleeve is really in right now, and I'm glad I was finally able to find an outfit where it worked for me. The necklace is refashioned from one from the Dressing Your Truth Store and the vintage shoes I picked up at a yard sale, it looked like they had never been worn.
By the way, did you know that you can get 15% off your entire purchase at H&M when you bring in two bags of old fabric (clothes, lines, etc.) to be recycled? I did it when I got this dress last week. It was a little awkward hauling a couple old bags of clothes through our nice mall, but I would say it was worth the discount and feeling good about recycling. Plus, it motivated me to clean out my closet and get rid of old clothes before I got new ones.

I'm one of those people who tends to get stuck in the whole, "Out of sight, out of mind," mentality. I also hate putting things away only to take them back out again. I've found the best decorating strategy is to have things I use every day out in front of my face, where I can find them easily. This could lead to an cluttered environment- well ok, it does. But at least it is a good looking, cluttered (or shall we say full), living space.
Here are my tips for pulling it off. I used my blue and gold bathroom decor as an example.
1. Group similar colors. Charming Charlies has this perfected and so can you in your home. Things just look more organized when they are in the same color group. I got most of these bottles at thrift stores or yard sales. Now if one breaks, I don't have to worry that the whole set is ruined.
2. Pay attention to what you already have. Before I started decorating my bathroom I noticed that a lot of what I already used everyday was blue: blue contact solution, blue face wash bottle (Paula's Choice is amazing btw), it's starting to sound like a 90's Top 40 song. You get the idea. From there build in a second color that goes well with the first, I chose gold.
3. Have a couple large containers over lots of small ones. Bigger items look more expensive and can hold a lot of the little ones. If you have a bunch of little items, even if they all match, it is easy to mess them up when you are in a hurry. They turn into clutter instead of decor.

I've loved this quote by Kahlil Gibran for over a decade. It is one of those inspirational pieces of instruction that I always come back to. To me, it is about experiencing life to the fullest, that sadness teaches you about joy, so don't be afraid to experience life at its fullest. When I took this photo of my sister a few days ago it reminded me that life is a ride.
Also, my sister's outfit is fabulous. She pretty much always wears leggings, a colored top, and a flowy cardigan and it looks stylish, effortless, and comfortable.
